Information we collect

We collect the information you choose to send us when you subscribe, email the show, ask about joining us as a guest or complete guest preparation details. This may include your name, email address, organisation, biography, social links and anything you include in your message.

Ghost records basic site and content activity. When you are signed in as a member, Ghost may associate viewed posts with your member record. Cloudflare provides traffic, security and performance information. Cloudflare Web Analytics reports aggregate measures and does not track people across different Cloudflare customer sites.

Newsletter emails can record whether a message was opened and which links were followed. We use this information to understand which episodes and subjects interest readers; open measurements are approximate because some email services block or preload tracking images.

How we use it

• To send the episode newsletter and service emails you request.
• To reply to questions, corrections and topic suggestions.
• To respond to guest enquiries and prepare guests for recording.
• To operate, secure and improve the site and podcast.

We rely on consent for newsletter emails. We use legitimate interests to run the site, answer correspondence, measure aggregate use and plan editorial work. We use information needed to arrange a recording when taking steps with a prospective guest.

Services that process information

The site runs on Ghost hosted by PikaPods. Ghost stores member records and site activity. Mailgun delivers publication email. Microsoft 365 receives messages sent to our podcast address. Cloudflare provides DNS, security and web analytics. Accepted guests may be asked to provide preparation details through Jotform.

Episode pages can include players from Buzzsprout and videos from YouTube. Loading or using those players connects your browser to that provider, which handles information under its own privacy terms.

How long we keep it

We keep subscriber details while you remain subscribed and retain the minimum suppression information needed to honour an unsubscribe. We keep correspondence and guest records only while they are useful for the purpose they were collected, or longer when the law requires it. Our service providers apply their own operational and security retention periods.

Your choices and rights

Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us for access to your personal information, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or to object to a use based on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent at any time. Some rights depend on the circumstances and the law that applies.

Contact us first if you have a concern so we can investigate it. You can also raise a data protection complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office.

We will update the date at the top when this notice changes. Material changes will be explained on the site or by email where appropriate.
